The interview
What is the last book you read? And what will be the next one?
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book, I’d rather read every single article of magazines like Garden Illustrated. For me it is a way of expanding my knowledge, creativity and the possibility of dreaming.
Your next trip?
I have no scheduled trips, I would like to visit the northern European countries. Norway and Iceland attract me a lot. When I return to Australia, whether on business or for pleasure, I would also like to go on to New Zealand.
Favorite color?
Green and in general the “ancient” color shades. Ocher, salmon pink and robin’s egg blue are other colors that I really appreciate.
What is the plant that matters most to you?
I care for all plants, especially perennials and grasses. I love Persicarie amplexicaulis, Stachys “Hummelo”, Eupatorium and Umbellifers.
Where would you live?
In Italy or in England at the moment, but I often change my mind. What is important is that the landscape is variable and there is a lot of nature.
What is your favorite historical era?
I would say the industrial revolution. Today, however, if I reflect on how nature would have been without such an event … maybe I do not like it so much anymore.
Can you describe in short a scene that represents “beauty and elegance” for you?
I find the plants dancing in the wind very elegant and beautiful.
Do you still play?
Yes, sometimes. I consider my work “a play”, especially when I work in my garden, in total lightheartedness. For me, playing is also experimenting and discovering, which are basic aspects of my daily life and my profession.
What is a garden for you?
A space that most of us should learn to know, appreciate and respect more. A place capable of being very generous with those who love it. For me it is the perfect place to express myself, a world in which we discover and are fascinated by many elements.
