2. “Time Travel”

Nicoletta Matteazzi, landscape architect and garden designer

The concept

A garden that is inspired by successful Victorian-era greenhouses, born as a cold weather shelter for citrus trees in the XIX century in England
Elegant buildings that became places for entertainment.
The greenhouse is an element of the garden to be rediscovered for its potential in expressing new and surprising atmospheres, in a time and space travel of botanical species for both recreational and scientific purposes

The interview

What is the last book you read? And what will be the next one?
“Il giardino che vorrei” – Pia Pera
“La vita secondo me” – Reinhold Messner

Your next trip?
I’d like to visit again Paris and its gardens.

Favourite colour?
White. It is the essence of purity, and it reflects light. I am always interested in working with light. Our perceptions of the colour spectrum depends on  this powerful element.

What is the plant that matters most to you?
It’s really hard to say…. Probably the olive tree. It is a powerful symbol of strength and longevity

Where would you live?
I am happy where I am living at the moment.

What is your favourite historical era?
The Renaissance, for the great cultural activity of that time.

Can you describe in short a scene that represents “beauty and elegance” for you?
The contemplation of the Botticelli’s painting: “La Primavera”

What is a garden for you?
An intimate space of reflection.

What is the journey for you?
A precious gem of experience.
