Dungeons of Villa Antica
“I segreti della rosa”
(The secrets of the rose)
A journey to a distant country, where today no traveller is likely to go: Syria.
A place of extraordinary beauty, of art and nature, now marked by the harshness of life and human cruelty.
How much has humanity already lost? And how much longer is it likely to lose?
From a reflection a shared work is born, from a thought a form, the symbol of this country: the Rose of Damascus, whose cultivation is disappearing from its homeland because of the war.
Also known as the “Rose of Perfumers”, much sought after for the heady beauty of its thirty petals, it has been an elixir of youth since ancient times and a source of inspiration for poets and painters.
With the installation “The secrets of the rose”, a magical bloom of damask roses made of silk will cover the walls of the dark dungeons, taking travellers to a dreamed-of land.
